Neuro-Developmental Treatment Workshop for Allied Health Professionals
Thanks to our community’s generosity, the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation was proud to support a recent educational opportunity for our dedicated Rehabilitation Department—an introductory Neuro-Developmental Treatment Association (NDTA) workshop led by the highly regarded Cathy Hazzard.
This specialized training hosted at the Campbell River Hospital brought together a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and rehabilitation assistants from both acute care and outpatient settings. The NDTA approach focuses on functional, evidence-informed strategies to support individuals recovering from stroke or brain injury.
The impact of this workshop was immediate and deeply felt by participants. One experienced clinician shared:
“I had taken a NDT course with Cathy back in 2006—it changed the way I practiced. The content is so functional, so patient focused, and so transferable immediately into everyday practice. Cathy is an amazing and inspiring presenter with amazing handling skills. She makes learning easy and fun and she is so able to incorporate handling, task, and environment to produce meaningful function. Doing this course last weekend, reminded me why I choose things I do and it taught me so much new and meaningful information. I left feeling empowered to be a better clinician and with a passion to do better for my patients. I hope all therapists choose to take this course as it is by far the best course I have taken in my 22 years of practice, and it inspires me and teaches me so much every time. Thank you so much for making this opportunity available to us here. I appreciate it and humbly ask you consider supporting more courses like this here in the future. Access to meaningful educational opportunities in house is so helpful in creating the best outcomes for our patients here locally. Thank you.”
Donor support makes professional development like this possible—and it translates directly into improved patient care for our community.
Thank you for helping to ensure quality healthcare, close to home.
