Activity #22302
Leanne Gray and a team of equally incredible fitness leaders (Jill, Deb, Michaela, Paula, Glenny and Gloria) are offering a very special fitness class by donation and in support of the Cancer Care Department at Comox Valley Hospital.
This team-taught, retro-style aerobics fundraiser will be a tremendous showing of solidarity and support, raising fun, funds and awareness at the end of October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual international health campaign meant to raise awareness about breast cancer risks, promote early detection and regular screenings, and support research into prevention, treatment, and cures. Participants are encouraged to wear pink or retro costumes!
Please donate through the form below in lieu of a registration payment. Charitable tax receipts will be emailed upon completing the form. Registration is required through Comox Recreation by calling 250-339-2255 or click here to register online (Activity #22302). Thank you if you have already registered!
We invite you to read Leanneβs story at the end of this page and to participate in honour of someone special in your life.
Leanneβs Story
Last June, what was supposed to be a routine step in advance of surgery turned into something completely unexpectedβI was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a scary and emotional time, but I was grateful to learn the cancer was caught early and likely contained.
I kept teaching spin classes as long as I could until my surgery in mid July. Thanks to an amazing medical team, the surgery went wellβand even better, the pathology came back clear. Hearing that they had gotten it all was an incredible relief.
In the fall of 2025, I went through 15 radiation treatments. That part of the journey was tough. The fatigue and side effects slowed me down more than I expected, both physically and emotionally. But even on the hardest days, I never felt alone.
The love and support from my community carried me through. Special messages, patience with my absence, and encouragement meant more than I can put into words. When I struggled, I leaned on that kindness to keep going.
Now, Iβm continuing on this next phase focused on healing and getting back to living! Iβm so deeply grateful for my healthcare team, who guided me with such care, and for this remarkable community that lifted me up every step of the way.
