Together, we are able to offer new technology and healthcare options that may have been years away or, perhaps not available.Your donations help make healthcare better for our community.St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation has started the process and will soon undergo a name change and a period of transition as it expands its mandate to encompass the new Island Health Comox Valley Hospital while continuing to support St. Joseph’s General Hospital in its changing role.As the Foundation begins the journey of evolution we will continue to ensure that Comox Valley Health care is the very best, today and into the future with new technology, environmental improvements and educational opportunities for staff.Whether retired to the Comox Valley, planning for retirement or raising a young family, we can all play a part in supporting local health care for this region.Imagine for a moment the impact accident, illness or injury can have on you, or your loved ones. Healthcare Today and Tomorrow
In 2017, Island Health will open two new hospitals to serve North Vancouver Island. At that time, the acute care services currently provided at St. Joseph’s General Hospital will transfer to the new Comox Valley Hospital, owned and operated by Island Health.St. Joseph’s General Hospital is excited about its new role post the transition of acute care services in the Fall of 2017. “We are pleased that the many talented St. Joseph’s employees, physicians and volunteers will form the foundation for the patient care that will be provided in the new Comox Valley Hospital. We view this as a legacy that St. Joseph’s can provide to the new community hospital.” said Jane Murphy President and CEO.
Future for St. Joseph’s
As for the future of St. Joseph’s, the owner, the Diocese of Victoria, is committed to continue its mission “We will continue with our mission of residential care in The Views. We are very excited about expanding our scope of services with the new residential hospice care that will open in July.” “The new hospice service is a wonderful example of how partners can come together to address a real need. Island Health, the Comox Valley Hospice Society, St. Joseph’s, local physicians and the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation worked together to bring this much needed service to our community,” expressed Jane Murphy. Chris Kelsey, St. Joseph’s Board Chair, shared “With the support from our community engagement we are continuing to determine services and programs that could best meet the needs of the community. We believe that St. Joseph’s could become a campus of excellence and innovation relative to seniors care. Our goal is to have a clear plan to share with the community within the next 12 months.”Already the need to redevelop The Views to meet all current standards has been identified. This redevelopment will include moving to single rooms and having the best design to support the care of residents with dementia. “The Comox Valley has always been so supportive of the health care needs provided at St. Joseph’s and we are so grateful for this. We look forward to continuing to provide needed services for many decades to come.”

We’re excited that the Foundation will expand their purpose to encompass both the new hospital and continue to support St. Joseph’s in its new role.”
