Celebrating the incredible Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) team at Comox Valley Hospital!

Today we would like to celebrate the incredible Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) team!

Behind every procedure, surgery, and patient care moment are these highly skilled professionals who ensure every instrument is properly cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use. Their attention to detail and commitment to patient safety make them an essential part of every successful outcome.

At Comox Valley Hospital, the MDRD team:

• Processes over 5,300 sterilizer loads annually

• Prepares 530 maternity delivery sets each year

• Cleans and disinfects 4,270 gastroscopes and colonoscopes and 4,416 cystoscopes yearly

• Supports 517 total joint replacement surgeries, with each procedure requiring 5–15 instrument pans

Through donor support, the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation has been proud to fund important equipment for this vital department, including the Work Station in the MDRD Decontamination Room, MDRD Minimally Invasive Surgical Rack, and the VPro Max Sterilization System helping staff carry out their critical work efficiently and safely.

Please join us in recognizing and thanking our Medical Device Reprocessing Department Technicians for their expertise, dedication, and vital contributions to patient care.
