Community is Enhancing Cancer Care
Cancer treatment isn’t quick. It isn’t easy. And for many patients in our community, it means sitting for hours at a time, week after week, navigating some of the hardest days of their lives.
April is Cancer Awareness Month, a time to recognize the vital care supporting individuals and families facing cancer, and the role our community plays in making that care better.
At the Comox Valley Hospital’s Cancer Care Clinic, over 4,900 outpatient treatments take place every year. That’s thousands of hours where comfort, safety, and compassionate care matter deeply.
Because of our community, those experiences are changing.
New donor-funded oncology chairs are now in place, designed specifically for cancer treatment. They offer greater comfort during long appointments, but just as importantly, they allow care teams to quickly adjust positioning if something changes. In critical situations, that can make all the difference.
It’s a simple thing, a chair. But for someone in treatment, it can mean feeling a little more at ease. A little more supported. A little less alone.
This is the impact of community generosity.
Alongside these chairs, recent donor support has helped bring advanced mammography technology and a special vein finder to the Comox Valley Hospital to further enhance care and broaden local services.
