Creating a Dementia-Friendly Community in the Comox Valley
January is Alzheimer's Awareness Month in Canada and we are happy to be able to share some of the outcomes from a collaborative project that we were involved in with the goal to create a dementia-friendly community in the Comox Valley.
In an effort to provide local businesses with tools to safely, respectfully, and confidently support people with dementia, a guidebook has been created. This resource explores dementia, debunks myths, provides examples that businesses might encounter, and illustrates how to approach these situations.
We highly recommend this informative guidebook that has been created by members of the Comox Valley Dementia-Friendly Partners Group including folks with lived experience, researchers from the University of Victoria, and students from the Health Design Lab at Emily Carr University of Art & Design. Other project partners include the Comox Valley Community Foundation, Island Health, and NSERC - CRSNG. We were thrilled to be part of this important initiative and to support the distribution of these resources.
You can download the guidebook through the button below or visit our office for printed copies. Posters are also available to further promote a dementia-friendly Comox Valley.
