With engines rumbling and hearts full of purpose, the Campbell River Eagle Riders once again hit the road for their annual Poker Run, raising an impressive $16,500 in support of three vital community organizations: the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation, the Campbell River Hospital Foundation and the Campbell River Volunteer Search and Rescue Society.

The Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation’s portion of the event proceeds will go specifically to Cancer Care, a cause close to the hearts of many riders. Special reclining chairs that provide added comfort during chemotherapy sessions, better patient safety, and improved ergonomics for nursing staff are on the Foundation’s priority list and this donation brings them closer to fulfilling the need.

The June 22nd Poker Run began with a welcome breakfast at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3097 Club Hall. Riders then embarked on a scenic journey stopping at local favourites including the Griffin Pub, Waverley Hotel, Crown & Anchor Roadhouse, and Petro Canada at Horne Lake. At each stop, participants drew playing cards to build their poker hands, with a dinner back at the hall to conclude the event. 250 motorcycles showed up for the ride and 325 poker run cards were sold.

Representing the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation at the cheque presentation, Marcie Dumais described the experience as deeply moving.

“The warmth and camaraderie of this group was felt instantly,” she shared. “From welcoming hugs to heartfelt stories, it’s clear this is a tight-knit community that truly looks out for one another. We’re honoured to receive this generous gift on behalf of the Cancer Care Unit at the Comox Valley Hospital—a cause that’s clearly personal to so many in this group.”

Sam Singh, the new president of the Eagle Riders, emphasized the importance of giving back to local healthcare services that have directly supported members of their community.

“I’ve seen firsthand the compassion and excellence in care provided at these hospitals,” said Singh. “This is our way of showing appreciation and supporting others who may need care in the future.”

The Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation extends its sincere thanks to the Eagle Riders and all those who supported this meaningful event from pub partners to volunteers and generous donors.

Ride on, Eagle Riders. Your generosity helps fuel hope and healing in our community.
