An investment in Comfort, Dignity, and Care

The Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation is proud to celebrate its partnership with the Comox Valley Hospice Society and the meaningful difference donor-supported investments continue to make in end-of-life care.

Recently, a specialized therapeutic support mattress was purchased for Aitken Community Hospice, providing an enhanced level of comfort and pressure-injury prevention for people receiving palliative and end-of-life care. Designed to help prevent bedsores and skin breakdown, the mattress reduces discomfort and supports dignity, comfort, and quality of life during a person's final days.

The impact was immediate.

"The day that it was delivered, it was put into use," shared Christine Colbert, Executive Director of Comox Valley Hospice Society. "The nurses are so grateful, and we have someone who is much more comfortable and well in their bed today."

This powerful example demonstrates how community-supported healthcare investments can make a difference from the moment they arrive. More than just equipment, this specialty mattress is a meaningful enhancement to the care environment within Aitken Community Hospice and a lasting investment that will benefit hospice residents and families for years to come.
