“I love living at Glacier View Lodge. The staff are friendly and cheerful, and my health is much improved due to their expert care. Now that my husband is here too, life is perfect!”
– Cathy Browne, Resident
Follow Back Road as it winds through the forest. When the road levels, you will feel a sense of arrival, a sense of coming home. To your left are sweeping views of the glacier. To your right is a parade of mature cherry-blossom trees. Tucked in behind the trees, sits Glacier View Lodge, one of our community’s beloved non-profit, long-term-care homes.
Glacier View Lodge is home to more than 100 people. Most of the residents are seniors and all need complex care. Glacier View Lodge is recognized for excellence in dementia care and offers professional nursing services, activation programming, nutritional services, spiritual care, and housekeeping and laundry services. The staff strives to create an environment where each resident thrives. The care providers are intentional about creating moments of joy and an environment that stimulates and engages the residents. If you visit, you may find people engaged in the kind of activities you might do at home: woodworking, playing a game, gardening, listening to music, enjoying the company of a friend or a family member and watching the fish swim in the aquarium.
Additionally, the staff at the Lodge offer respite care, adult day programs and a community bathing program.
Glacier View Lodge is deeply rooted in the community. It was inspired by the vision of the Women’s Institute of Northern Vancouver Island. In 1946 with donated land, donated funds, and committed volunteers, these women fulfilled their dream of keeping families close together by building a home to care for the community’s seniors. Building on this dream, Glacier View Lodge opened on a ten-acre site in 1982 and expanded in 1991 and again in 2015.
Community-minded individuals, with a clear vision, brought us Glacier View Lodge. Today, the Lodge’s board of directors continues to respond to the needs of the community and the help of the community, including Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation, moves the organization forward.
