It is National Respiratory Therapy Week. Our sincere appreciation for respiratory therapists who are highly trained health professionals specializing in airway management, the treatment of respiratory related conditions and the education of patients and their families regarding their respiratory condition and associated treatments.

Respiratory Therapists work in many areas of the hospital and are responsible for the treatment of patients who have experienced trauma or are in surgical or intensive care units; assisting in mechanical ventilation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); stabilizing high-risk patients being moved by air or on the ground; and providing support in high risk deliveries of babies who experience difficulty breathing.

City of Courtenay has formally declared this week Respiratory Therapy Week:

Visit the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists for more information about Respiratory Therapists and the important work they do.
