We are thrilled to learn that Island Health has designated February 22 – 28 as a special time to acknowledge porters for their dedication to their role in patient care and we want to extend a giant thank you to all porters at the Comox Valley Hospital.

The role of a porter is an important aspect of the patient experience; they are a vital component of hospital operations, with their primary focus being the safe and efficient movement of patients and equipment between various departments.
Behind the scenes, material porters take great pride in ensuring equipment is thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and is safe and ready to use. Island-wide in 2021, material porters delivered 430,000 pieces of equipment!

On the frontline, patient porters become a companion to the patient throughout their hospital journey, offering a moment of discussion, a listening ear, or simply just a presence during a time when someone is at their most vulnerable. Patient porters extend the same level of care and attention to the living as to those that have passed; in the eyes of a porter, care and compassion for each patient is paramount. Maintaining the dignity of each patient is of the utmost importance to these valued team members.

Thank you to all porters in the Comox Valley from all of us at the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation!
