The Comox Valley’s Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) team has a new Outreach Services Team (IHOST) who provide care and support to people living outside, experiencing mental health and substance use issues. The team is comprised of nurses, an occupational therapist, support workers, peers, and physicians who travel to where people are in our community, to deliver care. This mobile care team helps ensure vulnerable members of our community have access to care and better support.

Now, thanks to Trail Bicycles and other Foundation contributors, the team has two e-bikes to support their important work with the unhoused community. The bikes, provided earlier this year, improve access to areas that are not accessible by vehicle and are equipped with special saddle bags to carry supplies.

“E-bikes enable our outreach team to access, and more effectively care for, some of the most vulnerable people in our community,” explains Chris Goble from MHSU.

Our sincere gratitude to Trail Bicycles for their generosity in helping with acquisition of the e-bikes and to the Island Health Outreach Services Team who work tirelessly to provide much-needed care and support.
